About the ASAVA

Pup resting with ownerThe ASAVA represents all veterinarians who work in Small Animal practice or are associated with Small Animal practice. Our representation sees us actively involved with the AVA and other Special Interest Groups as well as governement and industry groups. To find out more click here.

The aim of the ASAVA is to provide quality ongoing veterinary continuing education and to raise the standards of small animal veterinary practice.

As the special interest group of the AVA representing the interests of small animal veterinarians and their patients, the ASAVA continues to provide significant and substantial member benefits such as

  • Production of the Australian Veterinary Practitioner, a practical, relevant, often case based journal for small animal veterinarians

  • Provision of two major conferences every year including the small animal stream at the AVA conference and the ASAVA conferences. Both conferences offer members the chance to earn valuable CE points at discounted rates

  • Free access to the Australian Veterinary Practitioner and proceedings from each conference. This also offers members the opportunity for additional CE points by access to quizzes

  • Regional R&R seminars. This new concept offers additional opportunities for easily accessible CE opportunities in a relaxing and social setting

  • Hospital Accreditation Scheme. The ASAVA administers this scheme which recognises hospitals fulfilling a strict high standard of veterinary practice

  • The ASAVA provides significant input into policy making, and advisory groups such as the veterinary nursing industry advisory group, the companion animals council and urban animal management and animal welfare issues

  • The ASAVA linked trust, the Australian Companion Animal Health Foundation is an independent foundation which raises funds which are used in supporting research projects which directly advances in veterinary knowledge that directly benefits dogs and cats not only across Australia but world wide

  • The ASAVA supports undergraduate and new graduate veterinarians with sponsored transition to practice programs and social events aimed at increasing the peer support for new graduates
  • The ASAVA actively promotes ts members to the public as a group of veterinarians who strive for excellence in their veterinary work and who are devoted to continuing education
