Accredited Hospitals FAQs

Is the process straightforward?
Yes. However if you are having difficulty at any time you can speak to one of the committee for advice and encouragement. A committee member can also do a preliminary visit for free to advise on areas that might need improvement.

How many ‘manual’ copies do we fill out?
Two. You can put a sheet of carbon paper between the duplicate pages to make this less time consuming (or you can photocopy the completed pages.) One copy is kept for your own records and one is sent to the assessor to view.

Which areas are checked first?
The medical and radiographic reports are checked first and then an inspection is organised after that.

Do we get our X-rays back?
Yes. As soon as they have been appraised by the specialist. They are sent to the ASAVA office and we send them on to you.

How long does it take?
This very much depends on the quality of the materials presented by the applicant. Every endeavour is made by the Committee to make this a smooth and timely process. However in some instances, the Committee or Inspectors may ask for further information from the hospital.

When do we get accredited?
The plaques are given out at the Annual Dinner at the ASAVA Annual Conference.

Does the ASAVA keep anything?
No. Everything is returned.

What about re-accreditation?
Hospitals are accredited for 3 years (in most instances) and then must apply for re-accreditation. Occasionally, hospitals are given a one (1) year provisional accreditation and they have to demonstrate an improvement to be granted a three (3) year term.
